Fabricoat – Professional Fabric & Upholstery Paint

Fabricoat is an innovative all-in-one fabric paint designed to completely change or refresh the color of any textile item. It is incredibly easy to use—applied directly with a brush or sponge, it soaks instantly into the fibers, transforming them without altering the fabric's original structure.

Whether you want to breathe new life into an old sofa, customize your car interior, or upgrade a favorite bag, Fabricoat provides a rich, long-lasting color that won’t fade or rub off once dry.

✨ Why Choose Fabricoat?

  • 🤸 Softness & Flexibility: Once dry, the fabric remains soft and pleasant to the touch. The paint becomes part of the fiber rather than sitting as a stiff layer on top.

  • 🌈 Vibrant Colors: Available in a wide range of shades that can be mixed to create your own unique tint.

  • 🧵 Preserves Texture: Even after dyeing, the natural weave and texture of the fabric remain visible.

  • 👟 Total Versatility: Suitable for both natural and synthetic fibers—from cotton and linen to canvas and microfiber.

🏘️ Where Can You Use It?

  • At Home: Sofas, armchairs, upholstered headboards, dining chairs, lampshades, and curtains.

  • In the Car: Fabric seats, roof linings (headliners), and door panels.

  • Accessories: Shoes, trainers, handbags, backpacks, and clothing.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Fabricoat is intended for indoor use only. It is not recommended for garden furniture or fabrics exposed to direct rain and prolonged, heavy sunlight.

📊 Coverage & Guide:

Quantity Approximate Coverage
250 ml A lampshade or a small decorative cushion.
500 ml A dining chair or one car seat.
1 Liter A large armchair (Supplied as 2 x 500ml).
2.5 Liters A full 3-seater sofa.

💡 Expert Tip: If your fabric has a deep pile or is highly absorbent (velvet, chenille, plush, or microfiber), you will need double the amount of paint due to the increased surface area of the fibers.

🛠️ Instructions for Use (The Professional Protocol)

1. Preparation & Cleaning

Ensure the material is completely clean and dust-free.

  • The Absorption Test: Drop a small amount of water onto the fabric. If the water soaks in, Fabricoat will work perfectly. If it beads on top, the fabric has a protective coating and cannot be dyed.

  • Cleaning: Use our Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner. For clothing, machine wash without fabric softener.

2. The Patch Test (Critical Step)

Always test on a small, hidden area.

  • Apply Fabricoat and let it dry. Wait 7 days for full fixation.

  • If the fabric has a pile (like velvet), brush it while drying to prevent sticking.

  • After 7 days, rub with a dry white cloth. Minimal color transfer is normal; if it rubs off easily, the fabric is not compatible.

3. Application

  • Dampen: Lightly mist the fabric with water using a spray bottle before the first coat. This helps the paint soak in evenly.

  • Apply: Rub the paint into the fibers using a brush or sponge.

  • The Secret to Softness (Brushing): Immediately after applying each coat, brush the fabric thoroughly with a cleaning/upholstery brush. This separates the fibers and prevents them from sticking together.

  • Layers: Apply additional coats once the previous one is dry to the touch. Only dampen the wood before the first coat!

4. Spraying (Airbrush)

  • Dilution: Mix Fabricoat with water in a 2:1 ratio (2 parts paint to 1 part water).

  • Technique: Spray in even, overlapping passes (horizontal then vertical).

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Will the fabric feel stiff after painting?

A: Not if applied correctly. The key is to brush the fabric while it's drying. If it feels slightly firm after the final coat, simply brush it again or start using it—daily use will quickly restore full softness.

Q: Can I change a dark fabric to a lighter color?

A: We recommend going from a lighter shade to a darker one. While you can lighten a fabric, it will require many more coats and may result in a slightly firmer feel.

Q: Is it permanent?

A: Yes. Once fixed (7 days), Fabricoat is water-resistant and durable. Clothes and cushion covers can be machine washed as usual after this period.

Q: Can I use regular acrylic paint instead?

A: We don't recommend it. Fabricoat is made from specialized flexible polyurethanes. Regular acrylic will crack and make the fabric feel like plastic.
